 Staff Application

 2012 Staff

Thank you for your interest in Camp Hatikvah. Please read the following information regarding Camp Hatikvah policies and procedures so that you can make an informed decision about applying to spend your summer.

Application Requirements:
In order to be considered for a position at Camp Hatikvah, applicants must have completed Grade 12 by at least the June of 2012. Applicants should be responsible, kind, compassionate and have a passion for Jewish camping. All staff applicants must complete a Camp Hatikvah Application Form and First year staff must participate in an Interview with the Camp Director. Once hired, staff are required to undergo a Police Criminal Record Check and Physical Examination at their expense.

New: Every staff member will be given at least two nights off (6pm - 10:00pm).

Staff Opportunities: Applicants completing Grade 12 and 1st Year University are entitled to apply for counseling staff positions. In these positions, counselors will be assigned to a particular unit at our camp and will be responsible for the general care and welfare of a designated group of campers. Those staff who have their NLS will also experience special privileges as Hatikvah is a water-based camp and it is of great value to have as many lifeguards as possible. Please consider taking the National Lifesaving course if you feel you could be an addition to our NLS team. IN ADDITION to responsibilities in other camp activities such as instruction in swimming, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, drama, dance, crafts etc.

All other applicants are welcome to apply for Dock Staff, Program Staff and Unit Staff positions.

Staff who are NLS certified will be financially compensated.

Pre-Camp:
All staff are required to undergo a pre-camp training session. During this time, staff are all trained in basic CPR/First Aid, childcare and sensitivity.

Camp Location & Travel:
Camp Hatikvah is located in the Okanagan. The closest major airport is in Kelowna.
Staff are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to and from the area. Staff are welcome to drive to camp and park their car in our staff parking lot. Most staff, however, will fly to and from the area. If you are planning to fly, please note that you are flying in and out of the KELOWNA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT where one of our staff will escort you to the camp.

Staff are required to fill out a Staff Travel Form prior to the beginning of the summer. The form will indicate how you are arriving to camp, so that arrangements are made for your arrival and departure.

Days Off: With the exception of staff assigned to our Staff in Training Unit, every staff at Camp Hatikvah is given two 24-hour days off in July and one 24-hour day off in August.

New: Every staff member will be given one night off (6pm - 11:45pm).

Staff Conduct:
Camp Hatikvah has strict policies which dictate the appropriate ways to deal with both campers and other staff. These policies will be outlined in a Staff Handbook given to you when you arrive at camp and by a group of sensitivity trainers known as the 'Integrity Group'. After their session, you will be expected to sign a document stating that you understand and agree to abide by said policies.
